To join the Laval Police Service

To join the Laval Police Service as a police officer, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Hold Canadian citizenship.
  • Hold a diploma for completing the Basic Training Program in Police Patrolling  (PFIPG) at the École nationale de police du Québec (ÉNPQ) or an equivalence from the ÉNPQ.

    or

  • Applied for admission to the Basic Training Program in Police Patrolling at the ÉNPQ.  

    or

  • Be in the third year of the college program in Police technology.

You must also:

  • Hold a class 4A driver’s license.
  • Demonstrate honesty and integrity, respect for the law, and an ability to maintain good relations. You must not have any criminal convictions.

AEC Program in Diversity Police Techniques

In collaboration with the Ministère de la Sécurité publique, the SPL is offering an ACS program in diversity police techniques.

An integral part of the Recruitment area of action of the SPL’s Justice and Equity program, this program also represents an opportunity to promote the police profession and encourage a culture of inclusion and diversity.

Following a successful selection process, candidates who qualify for this recruitment program may be offered:

  • A place in the attestation of college studies (ACS) program in Police Techniques.
  • A place in the 15-week police-patrolling program at the École Nationale de Police du Québec in Nicolet.
  • Upon successful completion of these two training programs, among other requirements, candidates may join a dynamic police force whose values are integrity, respect, innovation, teamwork, communication, diversity, and inclusion.

Important

The total cost of these two training programs is approximately $15,000.

Eligibility criteria

  • Belong to a visible or ethnic minority.
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree, a college diploma, or an equivalent (you must have a comparative evaluation of studies completed outside Québec issued by the Ministère de l’Immigration, de la Francisation et de l’Intégration, if applicable).
  • Be a Canadian citizen.
  • Be of good character.
  • Hold a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
  • Be in good physical condition (you must pass the standardized physical abilities test (SPAT), swimming tests, etc.)

Selection process

Our selection process includes:

  • A preselection skills inventory
  • An interview
  • A psychometric assessment
  • A security clearance
  • A medical examination at the time of hiring (free of charge)
  • A comprehensive review of your file (an update is required upon graduation from the ÉNPQ).
