{"id":26810,"date":"2024-11-28T16:59:49","date_gmt":"2024-11-28T21:59:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.laval.ca\/conseil-municipal\/procedure-formulaire-conseil-municipal\/"},"modified":"2025-09-03T15:53:52","modified_gmt":"2025-09-03T19:53:52","slug":"poser-question","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.laval.ca\/en\/democratic-life\/town-hall-elected-officials\/city-council\/poser-question\/","title":{"rendered":"Submit a Question to City Council"},"content":{"rendered":"<section class=\"sticky-section-group aligndefault\"\n>\n   \n<div class=\"sticky-section-main\"\n>\n   \n\n<p class=\"is-style-intro-text\">A question period is held at the end of each <a href=\"https:\/\/www.laval.ca\/en\/democratic-life\/town-hall-elected-officials\/city-council\/seances-conseil-municipal\/\">city council meeting<\/a> to give residents an opportunity to address issues of concern to their community with their elected officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conduct of the question period and applicable rules<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The following rules must be followed during the question period to ensure that everyone can express themselves in a manner that is fair and that discussions are respectful and constructive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The question period lasts 120&nbsp;minutes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Participants are given a maximum of three minutes, and no more than three questions can be submitted.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Questions can be put to a maximum of three council members, including the mayor.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Questions will be taken in the order in which they are received, with priority given to people in attendance at the meeting.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Questions must concern a subject of general interest, must be clear and concise, and must not include personal references, malicious insinuations, or harmful statements.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A question may be refused and a person\u2019s right to speak may be interrupted if these rules are not respected.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A person can have their question read by a staff member at the city, if they wish.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The elected official to whom the question is addressed, or the mayor, can answer the question immediately, during the next session, or in writing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No other person can respond unless they are invited to do so.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"procedure\">How to submit your question to city council<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To submit a question during a city council meeting, you must first complete and transmit the form below&nbsp;<strong>during the submission period for questions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Submission period for questions<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The question form must be submitted during the following period:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Regular meeting<\/strong>&nbsp;<br>Between 9 a.m. on the day before the city council meeting and noon on the day of the meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Special meeting<\/strong>&nbsp;<br>Within one hour of, but no fewer than 15 minutes before, the start of the meeting.
