Each season brings its own challenges and things to keep in mind<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">At all times, near schools<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>At all times, near schools&nbsp;:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>bey the signs and pay attention to what&#8217;s going on around you.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Stop at pedestrian crossings.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Respect the 30 km\/h speed limit.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Follow instructions and be patient when crossing guards are helping children cross the street.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Stop your vehicle five metres from a school bus when its flashing lights are on and its stop sign opens.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The Service de police de Laval does extra patrols near schools at the start of each season<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"rentree\">In August, back to school<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Teach your children about safe behaviour<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are driving your child to school:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Use drop-off zones, if available. Park in designated or appropriate areas.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Avoid blocking traffic and driveways. Even for short trips, you need the best possible visibility.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Be vigilant and avoid distractions. The school zone extends beyond the school grounds.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Make sure your child is visible (wears colourful clothing or reflective strips).\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Remember that cell phone use is prohibited and is punishable under the Highway Safety Code.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>When you&#8217;re walking around, pay attention to motorists and cyclists and make sure they see you. Don\u2019t hold and look at your electronic devices. Tell your teenagers that it&#8217;s better to use just one ear bud when they are listening to music while walking outdoors.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Keep in mind that heavy vehicles don\u2019t have the same blind spots as cars. When you see a snow-clearing truck, bus or other heavy vehicle, be sure to make eye contact with the driver. If you can&#8217;t see them, chances are they can&#8217;t see you either.
