How can you recognize and stop it?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is bullying?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Actions that may seem trivial can actually be considered bullying. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.quebec.ca\/famille-et-soutien-aux-personnes\/violences\/intimidation\/a-propos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Click here<\/a> to better understand what bullying is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The law defines bullying as \u201cAny repeated direct or indirect behaviour, comment, act or gesture, whether deliberate or not, including in cyberspace, which occurs in a context where there is a power imbalance between the persons concerned and which causes distress and injures, hurts, oppresses, intimidates or ostracizes.\u201d&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bullying can take many forms:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The victim may be verbally or physically attacked. They may be pushed, hit, etc.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The victim may be ignored or rejected by the group. False rumours may be spread about them, they may be made fun of, etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Extortion: Someone uses force or threats to take another person\u2019s property.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cyberbullying.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is cyberbullying?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the law, cyberbullying is the act of harassing a person or making threatening, hateful, or degrading statements about them. These statements may be in the form of text or images.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cyberbullying is a growing problem, mainly affecting young people ages 13 to 17. It often takes the form of a photo, video, text message, or email circulating on the Web that harms a person\u2019s dignity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many victims of cyberbullying remain silent, hoping the situation will improve on its own. Unfortunately, without proper intervention, bullying often continues. It is important to talk about it:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To a trusted person.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To specialized support resources.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Do not hesitate to contact support services for the help you need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>Prevention and intervention tips<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Are you a victim of bullying?\u00a0<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Bullying is not something you should have to put up with. Talk to someone you trust\u2014you don\u2019t have to go through this situation alone. Specialized resources are also available below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Is your child experiencing bullying?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you notice signs of bullying in your child:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open a dialogue with kindness.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Show your child that you support them. Isolation makes the situation worse.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Consult the support resources below to learn how to act.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Is your child engaging in bullying behavior?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Several organizations offer free support and tools to help parents understand and work to change the behaviour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Messages shared on social media<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Be careful what you post on social media. Insults, hate speech, and threats can be punishable under the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/laws-lois.justice.gc.ca\/eng\/acts\/c-46\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Criminal Code<\/a>. \u00a0To better understand what constitutes an offense, here are some definitions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-vortex-blocks-accordions-group block-accordions-group accordion-container\">\n<section class=\"wp-block-vortex-blocks-accordion-item accordion ac\" id=\"strongmaking-threats-strong\"><div class=\"accordion__accordion\"><button class=\"accordion__header-row accordion-toggle ac-header ac-trigger\"><p class=\"accordion__header__title\"><strong>Making Threats<\/strong><\/p><span class=\"accordion__header__icon\" role=\"presentation\"><span class=\"plus\"><\/span><\/span><\/button><div class=\"accordion__sub-rows wysiwyg ac-panel\" role=\"region\">\n<p>Everyone who knowingly makes, transmits, or causes any person to receive a threat:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>a) To cause death or bodily harm to any person.<br>b) To burn, destroy, or damage real or personal property.<br>c) To kill, poison, or injure an animal or bird owned by someone else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A person who commits offense (a) is guilty of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>An indictable offense and liable to imprisonment for up to 5 years.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Or a summary conviction offense and liable to imprisonment for up to 18 months.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Anyone who commits offenses (b) and (c) is guilty of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>An indictable offense and liable to imprisonment for up to 2 years.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Or a summary conviction offense.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><\/section>\n\n\n\n<section class=\"wp-block-vortex-blocks-accordion-item accordion ac\" id=\"strongpublic-incitement-of-hatred-strong\"><div class=\"accordion__accordion\"><button class=\"accordion__header-row accordion-toggle ac-header ac-trigger\"><p class=\"accordion__header__title\"><strong>Public Incitement of hatred<\/strong><\/p><span class=\"accordion__header__icon\" role=\"presentation\"><span class=\"plus\"><\/span><\/span><\/button><div class=\"accordion__sub-rows wysiwyg ac-panel\" role=\"region\">\n<p>Everyone who, by communicating statements in any public place, incites hatred against any identifiable group where such incitement is likely to lead to a breach of the peace is guilty of:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>An indictable offence and is liable to imprisonment for up to two years.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Or a summary conviction offense.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><\/section>\n\n\n\n<section class=\"wp-block-vortex-blocks-accordion-item accordion ac\" id=\"strongpractical-advice-strong\"><div class=\"accordion__accordion\"><button class=\"accordion__header-row accordion-toggle ac-header ac-trigger\"><p class=\"accordion__header__title\"><strong>Practical Advice<\/strong><\/p><span on social media, take a moment to think about the possible impact of your message:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Would I say these words if I were face-to-face with this person?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Am I making a direct or indirect threat, or a defamatory statement?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What would my friends or relatives think about this
