Its action plan includes new measures to better prevent and punish these crimes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The plan includes:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>New investigative tools for law enforcement, such as wiretapping and DNA collection.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>New offenses related to vehicle theft and organized crime, punishable by up to 14 years in prison.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Penalties for possessing or distributing a device used for vehicle theft, punishable by up to 10 years in prison.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Harsher sentences for recycling stolen goods for criminal organizations, punishable by up to 14 years in prison.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Increased penalties for anyone involving minors in criminal activities.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Preventing Theft Inside Vehicles\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Valuable items left in plain sight attract attention and can be stolen in seconds.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Protect your vehicle with simple measures:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Park in a well-lit area.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Lock your doors and close all windows when leaving your vehicle.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do not leave any valuable items visible.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Take your electronics with you (phone, tablet, laptop). Sophisticated tools can detect them even in the trunk.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Avoid hiding valuables under a blanket or seat\u2014these hiding spots are well known.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Activate your car alarm and anti-theft system.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Online Police Report\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you have been a victim of theft inside your vehicle totaling $5,000 or less, you can file a police report online.
